Any herpetologists out there?

Encountered this baby snake on the trail today. We think it is a copperhead.

  1. hi all!
According to a friendly herpetologist, this is a hognose snake. he says...

That is an Eastern Hognose Snake. It obviously felt threatened, which is why it is flattened out and is flaring its head/neck. This species is quite variable in color and pattern and has large geographic range in the Eastern US. And yes, it resembles a Massasauga Rattlesnake.
